Here is a list of things we want you to do as part of your leadership audition. We want you to be prepared for this so be thinking of the best experiences you have had with those that have lead you and what are you willing to do to be that leader or more for your section.

Steps Of Success For Your Audition.
1.) Fill out this interest form with written essays
In the form we want you to fill out the essay questions with thought. We are also looking for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Essay questions due February 15.
2.) Recommendations
Recommendations - Due Feb 15th
Please send the online recommendation form to 3 separate individuals who know your work ethic and abilities (think teachers, coaches, employers, community members). Do not wait to distribute the form. They will submit it online but please remind them it is due by Feb 15th. Copy and paste the following inserting your name to your choice of individuals.

3.) Conducting and Rehearsal Workshop Drum Majors-Section Leaders-Horn Sargent
TBA from 2:30-4:00pm Please arrive on time and be prepared with your printed music, a metronome and pencil. Please note tonal energy is REQUIRED for all leadership this year. Please have the metronome presets done for a final check off.
4.) Conducting and Rehearsal Exam - TBA during symphonic band, Booboo band style

6.) Service project proposals - written form due February 15
Please write a detailed proposal for a band service project. Expound on why this service project is important to you and how it could benefit the band as well.

4.) HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT RESOLVING CONFLICT IN THE GROUP?
5.) WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE CHOSEN ROLE YOU ARE HOPING TO TAKE ON.
Drum Major Preparations
Be Able to Answer these questions:
1) What is a Drum Major and why do you want to be one? (The answer to this question is important! Put some thought in before answering.)
2) What does it mean to be a leader, what kind of leader are you? (research leadership/management articles. There is no 1 correct answer that we are looking for, but you need to know what kind of leader you are, or want to become.)
3) What is band staff looking for in a drum major? (Make a list of what you think and then go ask the staff for their answers so you can make a list of things you need to work on.)
4) What do you need to do to be the drum major staff is looking for?
5) What have you liked about previous drum majors you’ve worked with? (No Names, just write the behaviors you liked. This is your list of “Gotta Do’s”)
6) What have you not liked from previous drum majors you’ve worked with? (No names, just write behaviors that you did not like. This is your list of ‘Do NOT Do’s”)
7) What rules would you make and how would you enforce them?
8) How do we make our band better?
9) What can you do to get more people in our band?
10) What can you do to influence current members to participate next year (How do we keep people in band)?
11) What level of discipline will you demand from your band, and how do you get your band to be disciplined?
12) What is our band ‘missing’ right now? How would you fix it?
13) Drama. How do you define & recognize when drama happens, how do you manage it, and what level of drama will be tolerated?
14) How will you motivate and inspire someone to improve their performance? (Think of various situations, what will you say to that person?)
15) When at rehearsal, how do we maximize the limited time we have to be productive? What does wasting time look like and how do we be more efficient?
16) Watch as many YouTube videos as you can about Drum Major tryouts, Drum Major Training, Drum Major Conducting, etc. to learn as much as you can. Also look for Drum Major articles online like this one: What Makes a Good Drum Major? 7 Things Every DM Should Do. After viewing a video or article, answer these questions:
a. What do you need to work on to be Drum Major?
b. What skills do you have already that will help you be Drum Major?
c. What can you bring to the Drum Major role that it is currently missing?
d. What creative changes could you make to the Drum Major Role?
e. What is your vision for Drum Major & what do you need to make it happen?
f. How can you succeed in this role?
